History of Basler Läckerli Original biscuits:
Its origin goes back as far as the 1400s, where men of the church considered the cakes they were offered unworthy of their holy taste buds, so bakers of the era created a more refined biscuit. Basel Läckerli was born, though the name itself did not appear until the beginning of the 18th century.
“Basler Leckerli” (or Läckerli) means ‘little delicious things from Basel’ — and that’s exactly what they are! “Basler” because that’s where they were created, in the city of Basel, Switzerland and Leckerli because “lecker” means ‘delicious’ in German while the suffix -li means ‘little’ in Swiss German.
For Läckerli-Huus, everything started with André Klein who joined a Basel based confectionery in 1903, which he took over shortly after. Basler Läckerli Original is the flagship product of Läckerli Huus, and has been since the very beginning. The secret of the delicious taste lies notably in the traditional complex balance of the spices used as well as the unrivalled quality of the ingredients.
Basler Läckerli biscuits are still manufactured according to the same unchanged, original, jealously guarded recipe to this very day.
Where are Basler Läckerli Original biscuits made?
Läckerli-Huus is a truly authentic, trustworthy Swiss brand.
The original Basler Läckerli biscuits, but also the entire assortment of Läckerli Huus specialties, are baked in Frenkendorf (canton of Basel-Landschaft). All their products are also lovingly and elaborately gift wrapped by hand in their Frenkendorf factory.
